Bernard Poyser | A Great Cardiffian


Just like everyone that knew Bernard Poyser we was devastated to hear of his sudden passing this month. Bernard was a great supporter of any event we was involved in, along with his wife Sandra and daughter Mel he volunteered every year at The Great Roath Bake Off and attended every RoathRocks gig. It was only a month ago he attended Nathan's  exhibition in the city centre, causing chaos as he manoeuvred his mobility scooter in the small exhibition area. Bernie was the life and soul of the party, always telling jokes and always laughing. We will miss the laughs, we will miss the jokes and the singing, your tales of the swinging sixties often had us in shock but always hysterics. This month we honour our friend The Cardiff Times Cardiffian Of The Month.

Bernard married Sandra in 1967 and they had Melanie and Christian in the early 70s. They lived in Roath for 44 years. (He grew up in Llanishen).

Bernard was a motor mechanic by trade.  He started working at J Sherlock and Son, Roath, Cardiff in the 1960s.  He eventually stopped working on the tools and moved into the admin side of things in the 1980s, working at a few different places along the way.  When he retired he was working at Cardiff Truck Centre.

Aside from his family, his one big love was music.  He played the clarinet, saxophone, keyboard, harmonica and guitar.  He was in a band called the Sons of Adam in the 1960s, they were pretty famous in South Wales at the time.  Over the years he played in various local bands up until the early 1990s.  Another thing he did in the mid 1990s was conduct a male voice choir for a while.


He used to drink in the Albany pub in Roath and the Gower pub in Cathays.  He played snooker for the Gower pub in the 1980s. His company will be missed greatly by many on the music scene in Cardiff too.

Strike A Pose : Interview With Carlton Wilborn

Back in 1990 Madonna took stardom to dizzy heights no star had experienced before. She had a massive number one hit on her hands (Vogue), was in a hit film (Dick Tracy) and embarked on a World Tour that would have the whole world talking! B*Witched Interview: Wyburn & Wayne

B*Witched are back! And they are coming to Cardiff to play Pride Cymru. With hits like C'est La Vie & Rollercoaster their performance is set to be one of many highlights to expect at this years Pride. We had a chat with Edele & Sinead about what it's like to be back and what to expect at their Cardiff gig. W&W: Hi Girls, so how does it feel being back together in B*Witched? Edele: It's incredible being with the girls, we just have such a great time together.
